The Scottish Craft Distillers Association - Certification Scheme (SCS) is a scheme to recognise quality control by members. It also provides a set of requirements for members. Members will be assessed against the scheme requirements and certification will be provided for those members whose quality systems meet the requirements of the scheme and who comply with all other scheme requirements. Those products certified to date are listed on our Accredited Products page.
The SCS has been developed by the SCDA to provide assurance to the industry and buyers of our products that such products can demonstrate:
Products have been craft distilled in Scotland
2) Quality Production
Use of quality raw materials and processes producing safe quality products
Effective maintenance of production and product traceability
1.1 Scheme members must declare all distillery products they have distilled in the last 12 months by product name.
1.2 Scheme members must declare all distillery products they have sold in the last 12 months by product name.
1.3 Scheme members must declare all distillery products they wish to sell promoted under the SCDS approved mark by product name.
2 Quality Production
Scheme members must demonstrate that they have an appropriate means of verifying the quality approval of their products from the suppliers of their raw materials to product packaging
2.1 Scheme members must demonstrate that they have an awareness of their obligations to be able to identify and manage any step in their activities which is critical to maintain food safety on the basis of the principles used to develop the system of HACCP.
2.2 Scheme members must be able to demonstrate the understanding and application of a HACCP approach to identify and manage any step in their activities critical to maintain food safety. This can be demonstrated by review of a specific business HACCP or the guidance template available to scheme members
3.1 Scheme members must maintain full and current documentary records relating to production for all products produced at their site, whether SCDS approved or not
3.2 Scheme members must make their records available for auditing to allow massed balance and traceability reconciliations to be carried out for all products produced at their site, whether SCDS approved or not.
